The Hardening process for most alloyed components is accomplished by heating to a temperature above its critical transition temperature. The steel is then quenched and tempered to achieve the final desired properties.

Carburizing, often referred to as Case Hardening, produces a surface which is resistant to wear, while maintaining the toughness and strength of the core.
Induction hardening is a selective surface hardening process in which a metal part is induction-heated in an energy field (coil) and then quenched to achieve its required properties. This process allows for selective hardening of the component in chosen areas without affecting the part as a whole.
The Normalize process provides a uniform, fine-grained structure and avoids excess softening in ferrous alloys.
